AT&T, Verizon and Sprint what do they all have in common? All of them are willing to buy your cell phone contract out, to offer you a lower rate, new phone and extra perks just so they can have your business. If you are willing to make the switch, you can save some money on your bill every month!
Here is a little secret, if they are wanting to move you over into another long-term contract, you may be able to negotiate an even lower-rate than what they are offering you.
Just remember, in reducing your bills or considering deals, everything is negotiable. Even if you get an extra $5 off your monthly bill, worth it right? Don’t be shy!
Try Out a Pre-Paid Service
This is best the way to control your bill, using a prepaid cell phone service. It is a great option, because month to month you can change your plan based on what you need, without any penalty. Sometimes, when you’re looking for a traditional plan, you really don’t know how much data you need. Salespeople are on you, to get the biggest package, but do you really need all that comes with it? Maybe you do, maybe you don’t.
The best way you can find out what you need, is to start with a prepaid service. Try the lowest priced option first. If it is not enough for the month, you can upgrade the next month. That way you have total freedom to discover what you need and save money while doing it.
What are some of the best prepaid cell phone services on the market:
- Cricket Wireless Basic
- $40; $35 with autopay discount, monthly
- Unlimited talk and text with 5GB of data
- MetroPCS 5GB plan
- $40, monthly
- 5GB of data, plus unlimited minutes and text messages
- Being less than $10 per gigabyte, this is definitely one of the best wireless deals to get your hands on
- Republic Wireless No Data
- $15, monthly
- Unlimited minutes and text messages
- It’s just simply minutes and messages for an incredibly low price, plus data access via Wi-Fi
- Small (no data)

This basic plan is tailored to your usage. A perfect option for those who DON’T live through their phones.

Cool Apps that Save You on Charges
With our phones being like personal computers, these days there is an app for EVERYTHING.
The problem with a lot of apps is that they naturally configure themselves to sync with your cloud accounts. Super convenient, definitely! However, this eats up data like nobody’s business!
What can you do?
Well, if you are the lucky user of an Android phone, you’ve got a feature locked in by default. Go into your Data Manager area and see which apps are running in the background, that you do not currently need and shut them off. Also, you can set alert for when you are inching your way closer to using up your data.
Try the “Lite” Versions of Popular Apps
The original Facebook App is a great example of this. This particular app is definitely not lite on your data plan. It is consistently running in the background and sending you notifications for every little thing. This app is a huge contributor to ravenously eating up your data plan.
However, there is a great alternative, by a third-party developer. It is called Facebook Lite! Facebook Lite is designed to do many of the same features as the main Facebook app, but while not eating up all your data.
Also, if you are an avid Twitter user, they have multiple third-party apps for you to choose from that are definitely a lot lighter on your data usage. Unfortunately, I have not seen any “lite” versions for Instagram or Snapchat.
So, if you are a mobile app developer, reading this article, please help the community out and develop some “lite” versions of these well-known apps. We will love you forever!
Well, as I conclude this article, I just want you to know that there are more tweaks you can make, to bring your monthly cell phone bill down. I just wanted to kick off some ideas for you and get the ball rolling.
Just imagine, if you found three little other things you use everyday or every week and tweak them a little, how much more you could add to your savings.
In fact, here’s a challenge for you. Think of just one other thing you pay for and use every day and write it in the comments below. Let’s see if we & the community can come up with some ideas on how to save a little bit on that expense.
Till next time!
